Corby
To the south of Glaston in Northamptonshire is Corby, once known as ‘little scotland’ due to the number of Scots who migrated south to work in its vast steelworks, it is now experiencing regeneration with a new railway station, new industries and leisure facilities.
Market Harborough
Market Harborough lies to the west in Leicestershire, it is a market town and in the 19th century the Grand National Hunt Steeple Chase was held to the south west of the town, this race and the meeting eventually developed into the Cheltenham Festival.
Melton Mowbray
Melton Mowbray lies 17 miles to the north of Glaston in Leicestershire, the home of the famous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, one of the places licensed to make Stilton Cheese and has 28 scheduled ancient monuments in and around the town.
Leicester
Leicester lies around 20 miles to the west of Glaston and is the nearest city, here you can find Leicester Cathedral, where the remains of King Richard III were reinterred in 2015 and the National Space Centre as well as being a thriving shopping and leisure destination.
Peterborough
Peterborough lies just over 20 miles to the east of Glaston in Cambridgeshire and houses a prominent cathedral, to the east is the Flag Fen archaeological site dating from the Bronze Age. For much of the 20th century it was the UK’s leading producer of bricks and is the home of Perkins Engines and British Sugar.
